A safer, more effective hair removal alternative to electrolysis and waxing is now available. If you are concerned with unwanted hair, you are probably a good candidate for laser hair removal. Laser therapy is a thoroughly tested and clinically proven treatment for hair removal. Only licensed physicians can perform laser hair removal in New Jersey.
The laser can produce near permanent results, unlike shaving, waxing, or tweezing. Laser hair removal is effective on almost any area of the body including underarms, bikini line, upper lip, face, back, shoulders, arms, and legs.
The laser technology involves passing a laser light though the skin to be absorbed only by the hair follicle. The heat generated by the laser light destroys the hair while leaving the skin unharmed. You may experience a stinging sensation as the laser pulse is delivered. To reduce discomfort, the cooling system automatically removes heat from the surface of your skin during treatment. The process can take just minutes for an upper lip to an hour for a full back or legs.
Laser hair removal consists of a series of 4-6 sessions to achieve optimal results. The exact number of sessions required varies according to several factors including the thickness of the hair in the treatment area and the size of the area to be treated. Results will improve with each subsequent treatment. Most people require occasional sessions to maintain results once hair removal is complete.
After your first treatment, the treated hair follicles will begin to fall out in several days to 2 weeks. With each successive treatment, the amount of re-growth will be significantly reduced. Removing hair does not make it grow back thicker, darker, or quicker. The opposite is usually true. The laser may cause hair to come back slower, thinner, lighter, and less noticeable.
Spider veins are formed by the dilation of small blood vessels near the skin’s surface. They can appear on any part of the body, but are most commonly found on the face and legs. The incidence of spider veins increases with age. There also appears to be a hereditary component with some people more prone to develop spider veins. In women, pregnancy and hormonal changes may contribute to the development of enlarged veins.
Our office uses the Cutera 1064 Nd:YAG laser to treat spider veins. The laser produces energy that is absorbed in the blood, but not in the skin and other tissue. When the laser targets a vein, the blood inside the vein is heated up and stops flowing. Without bloodflow to support them, the vessel walls collapse and seal off. These vessels later dissolve within the body.
The appearance of the treated veins will dramatically change immediately following a treatment session – with veins turning from purple and blue to light red. Small veins may immediately disappear. The redness of the treated vessels will gradually fade as the healing process occurs - anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks depending on the severity of the veins that were treated. Side effects may include temporary bruising or swelling at the treatment site of larger veins following treatment, but inflammation usually disappears within a couple of hours.
The number of sessions of laser treatments required will depend on the size, severity, and number of veins involved. Anywhere between 2 to 3 sessions are typical.
Results are permanent on the treated veins – either diminishing or completely eliminating their appearance. However, the development of new veins cannot be prevented. If you tend to develop vascular problems such as spider veins, you will most likely need additional future treatments.
Laser skin tightening is rapidly becoming the treatment of choice for patients looking to achieve a younger looking appearance. While it does not produce results as dramatic as those of a facelift, patients with minor to moderate skin laxity can achieve noticeably firmer skin with no downtime and little discomfort. This is why Titan™ is often referred to as the “lunch-time facelift”.
While most commonly used on the face and neck, the Titan™ procedure can offer excellent results on sagging skin in the abdominal region following weight loss or pregnancy.
Using infra-red light, the Titan™ delivers heat into the deep layer of the skin (the dermis). The heat stimulates the growth of collagen in the treated areas. This regeneration of natural collagen beneath the surface results in smoother, softer skin. While the deep layers are being heated, the surface of the skin’s surface is cooled, ensuring patient comfort throughout the treatment.
The results of the Titan™ procedure are gradual. Lines, folds, and loose skin will steadily diminish over the course of 1-3 months as the skin’s natural stores of collagen are gradually replenished.
Although a single treatment has produced very good results for many patients, it is common to require two or three treatments over a period of several months to achieve optimal results.
Laser Genesis skin therapy is an innovative way to promote vibrant, healthy looking skin. It targets conditions typically associated with premature aging and sun damage, including fine lines, uneven skin texture, excessive redness, dilated capillaries (telangiectasia), large pores, and small scars.
Laser Genesis treatments are comfortable and non-invasive. The procedure gently heats the upper dermis (below the skin's surface) to stimulate collagen regrowth. Laser Genesis also heats dilated capillaries to reduce redness. The result is a more even, healthy looking complexion as large pores are reduced in size and minor imperfections are diminished. Results are achieved without bruising or excessive skin irritation. The most common side effect is slight redness that disappears within a few hours of treatment.
Laser Genesis requires 4 to 6 treatment sessions on average to achieve optimal results. The results of each treatment session are subtle, but the overall effect of multiple treatments can be dramatic.
Botox is an FDA approved muscle-relaxing agent, which has long been used for treating migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and eye and neck muscle spasms.
Botox Cosmetic is a non-surgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily reduce moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, crows feet, and forehead creases. Made from a purified protein, Botox injections will gradually reduce these lines, leaving you with a more youthful appearance. Botox cosmetic works by inducing relaxation of underlying facial muscles, but when performed correctly, will not result in an expressionless face!
Treatment with Botox cosmetic is tailored to each individual patient, and the degree of wrinkle/line reduction can be modified accordingly. Within days of your initial treatment, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows. Lines continue to improve for up to a month, and results can last for up to 4 months. Subsequent treatments may produce longer-lasting results.
Side effects are usually mild – the most common is temporary bruising at the injection site.
If you are experiencing wrinkles or expression lines on the face, forehead, or around the eyes, you could be a good candidate for treatment with Botox cosmetic.
Restylane is one product available in the category of “injectables”. Restylane consists of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance already present in your body. When injected into the skin, Restylane® adds volume to the treated areas, resulting in a smoother appearance and reduction of wrinkles, lines, and folds.
Restylane® is most commonly used around the nose and mouth areas to treat “smile lines,” (from the bottom of the nose to the corner of the mouth) and “marionette lines” (from the lips to the chin).
The results of treatment with Restylane® can be seen immediately and may last up to 6 months. Subsequent treatments are then usually needed to maintain optimal correction.
Side effects are usually mild and resolve within 7 days or less. The most common side effects include temporary injection site reactions (redness, tenderness, and bruising).
Juvéderm™ injectable gel is a nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment. Your doctor eases Juvéderm™ under the skin using a fine needle to augment, or fill, the soft tissue of the dermis—the dense inner layer of skin beneath the epidermis—to add volume and diminish wrinkles and folds.
Juvéderm™ injectable gel is used most effectively for those wrinkles and folds in the lower third of your face, like your "laugh lines," "smile lines" or "parentheses or "marionette lines"
Juvéderm™ is a "next-generation" filler. It is made from hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to hydrate and add volume. Hyaluronic acid may diminish with age, contributing to the formation of wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm™ injectable gel works to correct this by restoring hyaluronic acid in your skin, helping to smooth wrinkles and folds. The results of treatment with Juvéderm™ can last up to 12 months.
IPL (also know as FotoFacial and Photorejuvenation) is a gentle, non-invasive treatment used to combat the signs of aging, red and brown spots, and enlarged pores. This laser treatment provides superior cosmetic results and high levels of patient satisfaction. After only the first treatment, skin looks and feels smoother and appears more even toned. Sunspots fade, pore size shrinks, and fine wrinkle lines are reduced. IPL can be used on nearly any part of your body, including your face, neck, hands, and feet.
The IPL treatment delivers controlled pulses of light that penetrate the skin and heat the sub-surface layers. Treatment times vary from 15 to 45 minutes according to the size of the area treated. Daily activities can be resumed immediately following an IPL session. The skin may be flushed and may appear irritated following a treatment session. These initial effects usually fade within a few hours, but can occasionally last for a few days.
A series of IPL treatments can offer the benefits of a deep laser resurfacing treatment or chemical peel without blisters, burns, or long recovery time.
An IPL treatment package consists of 5-8 treatments, each spaced 3-4 weeks apart. A series of at least 5 treatments is needed to obtain the best results. The improvements gradually increase with each successive treatment.
